Before its life as a 5 star hotel, Dromoland Castle was for 300 years home to a fascinating family- The O’Briens. They descend directly from Brian Boru and through every twist and turn of Irish history, there was usually one of them involved, in some way big or small. In some generations, the family had as many as 17 children, so among them are men and women of amazing variety. There was a Rebel, a Saint, a Gambler and quite a few trailblazing feminists. One O'Brien was a great Painter, one an able Politician, but there were also those who were dragged into various scandals.
